THE STORY OF OUR GROWTH
The five founders of SThree in 1986
1986
SThree established
Our first business, Computer Futures, opened its first office in London in 1986 with just a handful of staff. Today, we are one of the largest IT recruiters in Europe.
In 1990 Specialist brand Progressive was established

Progressive was born
Our second specialist brand Progressive opened its doors in London. Today, Progressive operates in countries across four continents, focusing on IT, Engineering, Pharma, Telecoms, Healthcare and Oil & Gas.
Huxley Banking & Financial Services opened its doors in 1995
1995
Huxley opened its first office
As part of SThree's expansion our third business, Huxley Associates, was established in London in 1995. Huxley is now one of the world’s leading recruitment consultancies, specialising in providing staffing and talent solutions to the banking and financial services industry.
International expansion to other European countries
1998
International expansion
In 1998 SThree launched its first European office in Brussels and began its international expansion. We started in the UK but we now generate around two thirds of our business internationally.
Real Staffing, SThree’s fourth specialist brand, was established in 1998

Start of Real Staffing and expansion to Ireland
In the same year, our fourth main brand Real Staffing opened in London and we expanded our business to Ireland. Today, Real Staffing is an international staffing company specialising in the Healthcare and Life Sciences sector.
In 2002 SThree opened it's business in Germany.
2002
Moving to Germany
2002 was the start of our expansion to Germany with our first offices being opened in Frankfurt and Munich followed by four further locations across Germany.
In 2005, SThree entered the London Stock Exchange
2005
Listed on the London Stock Exchange
SThree officially floated on the London Stock Exchange on 11th November 2005.
The SThree Group expanded into the US market in 2006

Expansion to the US
Our first North American office opened in New York in 2006. We now have a large presence in the US, trading as Specialist Staffing Group, with offices in Austin, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Minneapolis, New York, San Diego and San Francisco.
Our Dubai and Hong Kong office opened in 2008
2008
Move to the Middle East and Asia
Shortly after our expansion to the US we opened our first Middle Eastern office in Dubai and our first Asian office in Hong Kong.

Gary Elden appointed CEO
Gary Elden was appointed to the board in July 2008, having been with the group since 1990. Gary has held a number of senior positions including that of founding Managing Director of Huxley Associates. He was appointed as Chief Executive Officer on 1 January 2013.

Times Top 50 Employer for Women
In 2011, we founded Identity, our own Diversity and Inclusion Programme focused on providing a strategic approach to managing diversity and increasing the awareness of gender diversity and inclusion. Since then we have won a number of diversity awards, including The Times Top 50 Employers for Women and the APSCo Award for Excellence for Diversity & Inclusion.

In 2016, our CEO Gary Elden was awarded an OBE for his achievement and service to Diversity in Business. Just a few months later our commitment to creating a positive and inclusive work environment was yet again recognised by winning the APSCo Award for Excellence for Diversity and Inclusion.

Our CSR programme is about 'Transforming Lives through Skills & Work'. By focusing on what we do best we can achieve more for all involved.
Employability workshop led by SThree employees
Our employees can use two paid working days to volunteer, with a main focus on ‘Employability and Aspiration’ to nurture the career development of young people.
One of our initiatives is to run workshops to build the attendees’ confidence and skills to find a job.

CEO Gary Elden creates career opportunities for apprentices
We’re very proud of the fact that our people get involved in arranging and overseeing placements for young people from underprivileged backgrounds, ranging from work experiences to apprenticeships which can even lead to permanent employment.
Every year we take on a new cohort of apprentices to provide them with meaningful paid employment while they work towards an NVQ qualification. We also fund bursaries for university students, with a focus on STEM subjects.
Every scholar is invited to visit our SThree offices and take up work experience.
Our people lead a range of fundraising initiatives including sports tournaments, dress down days and personal challenges to raise money for SOS Children's Villages and help reach our £1m target for the10th anniversary in 2018. Additionally, SThree matches fundraising up to £50k per year.
As part of our partnership with SOS Children we’re sponsoring a house in Zambia providing a home for seven orphans, funding scholarships for African students who grew up in SOS Children Villages and nurturing local partnerships with SOS Children in Germany and the US.
We monitor and report on our environmental impact and resource efficiency
We’re aware of our responsibility as a global organisation to play our part in preserving our planet. That’s why we conduct an annual carbon footprint exercise to monitor our environmental impact and meet legal obligations. We offset our carbon emissions by investing in renewable energy projects.
We also continuously explore new ways to increase efficiency across the organisation to reduce costs, emissions, waste and ensure our employees' time is used effectively by giving them access to Virtual Meeting Rooms.

We look after our people and made Diversity and Inclusion, Developing Talent, and Employee Engagement core parts of our business.
We want to make sure our people’s voices are heard. That’s why we make them part of our annual conferences, launched Employee NPS to capture feedback and nurture various forums.
